A team of 10 children from year 6 visited GKN Aerospace in Bristol to take part in this year’s First Lego League Challenge. The challenge theme this year was ‘Unearthed’ with all the missions and the research project themed around archaeology. This is an international competition and as it is aimed at children 9-16 years old we were competing against secondary school teams as well as other primary schools.
The children build and programmed a Lego robot to tackle a range of challenges, had to complete a research project – choosing to focus on ground penetrating radar and were also judged on their team work and problem solving.
On the day, our brilliant team were consistently in first place in the robot performance rounds, hitting the highest score of the day by any team of 240 points. As a result, they won the robot performance category.
Everyone had a fantastic day and enjoyed all the challenges. They were particularly pleased that they beat teams from a number of secondary schools.
